Here at Live Healthy Iowa, we like to continue to provide Iowans with opportunities to establish healthy lifestyle habits all year round. We never want to leave you hanging for too long without a challenge! So that leads me to our upcoming challenge….
The Next Step Challenge
Iowans have heard that a key component of healthy living is to move more, naturally. Live Healthy Iowa has the perfect opportunity to make it a habit. LHI’s The Next Step Challenge is a 6-week pedometer based challenge motivating Iowans to move more by tracking their daily step count in friendly team competition with the chance to win incentives and prizes. The Next Step Challenge begins September 9 and Iowans can form teams of 2-10 friends, family or co-workers, designate a team captain and register now at www.livehealthyiowa.org.
Registration for The Next Step is $10 per participant and each will receive a Live Healthy Iowa pedometer; a weekly email containing activity tips, healthy recipes and fitness inspiration; access to a personal tracking page, healthy recipes and wellness information on the Live Healthy Iowa website; opportunities to win team incentives and individual prizes; and more!
“I had been trying to lose weight and plan to exercise. It wasn’t until I had a team depending on me that I finally did. I lost 15 pounds during The Next Step Challenge. It wasn’t easy to add walk time into my daily routine but because of the team motivation and Live Healthy Iowa tips I did and now it has become habit. Plus, I’ve found that walking is a great way for me to de-stress!” says 2012 The Next Step participant, Kay Allen of Boone.
2013 is the third year for The Next Step Challenge. In 2012, 5,105 Iowans participated on over 900 teams representing 98 Iowa counties. Participants recorded nearly 3 billion steps, equivalent to 1,469,912 miles!
