LHI Tip of the Week – Walk for More, Support a Cause

The abundance of fitness events around the state makes if super easy to get active while supporting a cause all year round. You really can’t go wrong when you make the decision to walk, run or bike while raising awareness and donating to a national organization or a local charity. The benefit goes far beyond burning some calories – you can help make a difference in the lives of many while having fun with friends or family and working toward your fitness goals.

You may know someone who has been affected by Leukemia, Diabetes or Cancer and you can support research by participating in a fitness event such as a 5K. A local school or charity organization may be hosting a walk-a-thon or a fun run to raise money to support a project or to update technology. Whatever it may be, participating in a fitness event is a great way to get involved in the community!

In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, consider participating in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure event in Des Moines on Oct. 26th. You can find many more local fitness events at www.runningtheusa.com. Support a charity or organization by getting active and having fun!
