Healthy Families Challenge – Explore the Outdoors

The Healthy Families Challenge is nearing an end, but that doesn’t mean your family’s healthy habits and fun activities have to! There are plenty of ways to be active in the fall and winter months and Live Healthy Iowa challenges your family to continue exploring the outdoors and playing interactive indoor games. Be creative, use your resources (ahem, Pinterest) and try new things. You’ll be surprised by how much you really can do in the colder months when you make it a priority!

CachingFamily1Check your local parks and recreation department website for upcoming events. You will likely find youth and adult sport leagues and recreational events that are fun for the whole family. The Iowa Department of Natural Resources has a great list of state parks, hiking trails and more. Have you ever tried geocaching? This real life treasure hunt is fun for the whole family! Be sure to check your local YMCA and other fitness centers for more ways to stay active throughout the fall and winter months as well.

Your family has learned so much and have adopted so many great new habits that will allow you all to continue to lead a healthy lifestyle. Encourage each other to make healthy choices and be active every day!
